Mark Watson possesses a wealth of coaching experience. His experience includes a series of winning team records, numerous awards and honors, involvement with camps and schools, speaking engagements, and coaching 22 players who went on to earn Division One scholarships. For the past 35 years Mark has coached at all age levels from youth to college level. He has been a defensive back coach, a quarterback coach, and a head coach and has worked for the University of Southern California, Long Beach State, and Oak Ridge High School.
He was the recipient of the Meritorious Performance and Professional Promise Award for the Physical Education Department, Athletic and Recreation Department in 1987-1988. He received Coach-of-the-Year awards in 1996 and 1998 and was selected as the League Coach-of-the-Year in 1979, 1990, 1996, 1998, and 1999. In 2005 he was selected for the Old Alhambra Club of Martinez Hall of Fame and in 2009 he became an Honorary Life Member of the American Football Coaches Association for his 35 years of coaching experience.
In 1979 and 1999 he was the head coach for two all-star football games. His winning records with Oak Ridge High School in 1989-1999 led to three top ten rankings in the State of California for the 89-21-2 team record. During that time he won four league championships and was a playoff contender for 8/11 years. In 1998 his Section Championship Team held a 13-0 record.
He is the co-founder of West Coast Youth Football (WCYF) which offers football camps, quarterback schools, advanced lineman and advanced passing schools, as well as private instruction. He is the inspiration behind Inspired Reels/Pigskinkids.com and he continues to be a popular guest speaker for various football clinics.
